Michael J. McNamara is the current Editor of the McNamaraReport.com, the McNamara Report TV Channel on Youtube, and owner of In-Depth Focus Labs in Hopewell Junction, NY. From 1991 to 2008 Mike was the Executive Technology Editor of Popular Photography Magazine, the highest circulation photography magazine in the world.
During his multi-decade career as a photojournalist and videographer, Mike has written hundreds of articles on photography and had thousands of his photographs published in national magazines– including over two dozen cover images in Pop Photo. His articles and photos have also been featured in Outdoor Photographer, Digital Photo Pro, Fit Yoga, American Photo, Professional Photographer, Woman’s Day, The New York Times, Boating, Travel Holiday, American Baby, and Stuff magazines. From 2018 to 2021 he also wrote “The Projectionist” blog, technical articles, and reviews of new home theater and HDR projectors for ProjectorCentral.com.
Mike is an advanced underwater photographer and videographer, and has completed two documentaries for the U.N.’s World Heritage Photo Project–one on the Geat Barrier Reef, and the other in The Wet Tropics of Queensland, Australia. He’s also considered a regional expert on raising Monarch Butterflies.
Mike earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Imaging and Photographic Technology from Rochester Institute of Technology, and served as an Associate Professor at RIT prior to joining Popular Photography Magazine. Previously, he spent three years at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT studying Ocean Science, and as an officer-in-training aboard the Tall Ship USCGC Eagle.
Mike currently lives and works in the Mid-Hudson Valley, NY., one of the most beautiful regions in the world. He lives with his wife Wendy, and is the proud father of three boys, Matt, Bryan, and Andrew.
